So, what does one do with a Bill that is opposed by the Statewide Association of Police Chiefs and is described as "Misguided" by the President of the United States?
Sign it of course!
Well, at least that's what Arizona Governor Jan Brewer believes. It goes without saying that the newly signed Immigration Enforcement Bill is nothing shy of an open invitation to infringe upon the civil rights and liberties of every individual that just doesn't look....what's the word I'm looking for..."right".
I guess what one should find so shocking is its blatant disregard for common human decency. To be able to stop someone in the street because of their skin color, or the clothes they are wearing, or the music that they are listening to is wrong and there's really no other way to put it.
Let's just call SB 1070 what it is, Racial/Ethnic Profiling, and if History is any indicator, then the only thing that will be promoted by this Law is discrimination, violence, and intolerance.
Anywho, all of that was said to say this. If you oppose Arizona's new Immigration Law and are a Virginia Young Democrat, be it in age or spirit, I would like to formally invite you to a March for Immigration Reform. The details are listed below
What: March for Immigration Reform When: Saturday, May 1st at 1:30 pm Where: Boulevard Park in Newport News Who: Anyone that supports comprehensive reformThere will be featured speakers from the NAACP, radio personalities, as well as plenty of music and fun after the rally.
Attendees are encouraged to wear white t-shirts and bring US flags and/or signs supporting reform, the economy, and keeping families together.
Side note: I would, however, like to thank the Arizona Governor for taking some of the heat off of Virginia that was a direct result of our Governor's recent backward policies. Our gratitude is only limited by the fact that we recognize the schadenfreude is at the expense of the innocent Arizona residents.
