Great GMU Dems Super Tuesday Event

Perhaps it’s due to Sen. Barack Obama’s appeal to younger voters or the realization by many college students that we need a leader who will bring about the change so desperately needed after seven years of the Bush Administration, but the presidential primaries so far this year have seen an increased participation of younger voters. As the results from Super Tuesday began coming in last night, students at George Mason University definitely illustrated how this isn’t simply a phenomenon in the early states.

Democratic Thank You Party

During the months leading up to the election, it often seems as though people involved in politics are running on cruise control as they are going to various canvasses, fundraisers, and other events. When that is combined with the fact that Democrats were largely successful in the elections earlier this month, I’d like to think that many events in the next few weeks would not only be more productive but also more enjoyable. It’s for that reason that I am looking forward to a “Thank You Brunch” being cosponsored by “The Fairfax County Democratic Committee, and the 8th, 10th, and 11th Congressional District Democratic Committees.”

The event, which is being held on Saturday, December 8, will run from 11 am to 1 pm at the Best Western located at 6633 Arlington Blvd, Falls Church, 22042. As Gerry Connolly and the Democratic Party pointed out in an email statement, the thank you event last year was largely successful and this should be a great way to come together after a very successful election.

“We want to thank the many volunteers who contributed so much of their time, energy, money, and support to our Democratic candidates for the General Assembly, the county board of supervisors, constitutional offices, and school board,” Connolly said. “With elections held every year in Virginia, we want our supporters to know we value their continued involvement in the political process.”

Hundreds of Democrats attended the 2006 Thank You brunch to celebrate Jim Webb’s victory that returned control of the U.S. Senate to the Democrats. This year, we can enjoy good food, good company, and celebrate the new Democratic majority in the Virginia Senate and the other important Democratic victories this year.
