2010 Legislative Fellows

VAYD Legislative Fellows

Rarely does an opportunity like this arise for young people to play such an active role in policy. The Young Democrats and the Senate Democratic Caucus has joined forces to provide a fellowship program where young people can become experts on an issue area and work closely with elected officials during the General Assembly session.

This year's fellows are working hard to help our Senators keep Governor Bob McDonnell in line. So far this year, Senate Democrats have passed legislation to ban discrimination against gays and lesbians in the state workforce, a bill to allow local governments to offer health insurance to the domestic partners of their employees, a constitutional amendment to exempt severely injured veterans from taxes on their homes, and an amendment to allow localities to reduce taxes for green companies.

Assuming Pass-the-Buck Bob ever actually presents budget amendments to fill the $2 Billion budget gap he created, our fellows will be there to help our Senate Democrats fight for a budget that keeps Virginia running as well as it did under our two previous Democratic Governors.
